Financial accountability is a top priority for the City of Albany. This page seeks to enhance awareness regarding the prevention and detection of fraud, waste, or other abusive or unethical activities by City government staff or involving City government assets.

What are examples of reportable offenses?

Here are some examples:

  • Theft or misuse of City property or resources
  • Ethical violations such as conflicts of interest, bribes, kickbacks, fictitious claims
  • Abuse of work hours
  • Inappropriate use of City credit cards 
  • City policy violations

The City of Albany has won the Government Finance Officers Association's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award since 1991. In order to receive this award, a governmental unit must publish a budget document that meets program criteria as a policy document, as an operations guide, as a financial plan, and as a communication device. The award is valid for a period of one year only.
