The City of Albany strives to maintain a website that is accessible to people with disabilities.

How are we doing with accessibility?

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 outline how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities, and user friendly for everyone. The guidelines have three levels of accessibility (A, AA and AAA).

We’ve chosen Level A as the initial target for the City of Albany, Oregon Government Website. Information Technology is continuously working on achieving and maintaining the City’s current goal of Level A accessibility.

The following information explains what we're doing to make that happen:

4.1.1: Parsing

We strive towards a good faith effort in complying with W3C specifications.

1.2.3: Audio Description or Media Alternative (Prerecorded), 1.2.2: Captions (Prerecorded), 1.2.1: Audio-only and Video-only (Prerecorded)

We have the ability to handle requests on a case-by-case basis. Reasonable accommodations are available when made prior to the public meeting.

Our website has been designed with the following accessibility guidelines in mind:

  • Use of semantic headings and structure
  • Declaring a language attribute on the HTML element enables a screen reader to read out the text with correct pronunciation.
  • Implementation of appropriate alt text
  • Use of unobtrusive JavaScript
  • Logical Form Layouts
  • Improving color contrast

Third-party providers

The City of Albany works with third-party providers, organizations and entities ("online service providers") who provide various online functions and services on the City's behalf. Online service providers are contractually required to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act whenever they represent or provide functionality on behalf of the City, including their provision of online services on behalf of the City. If there is a concern with an online service provider's website accessibility, please contact the City so we can contact the vendor to address the issue and consider the vendor's ability to comply with accessbility requirements in any future procurement process.
